Special places of interest in Salzburg
Salzburg offers many opportunities to discover its rich history, to enjoy the spectacular views of the old city or to relax.
Walk on the Mönchsberg (Salzburg city)
Duration of the walk : 1 h (approximately)
Departing point : Toscaninihof (next to the Festspiele Operabuilding)
Arrival point : Kaigasse (city centre)
A nice walk offering great views on the old city center, on the castle and on the mountains. Beginning of the walk : Toscaninihof (next to the Festspiele Opera), walk up the stairs on your right hand side when you look into the direction of the mountain. Once you have arrived on top of the hill, there are many possibilities to walk. The recommended tour will have you walk in the direction of the Castle and get down to the city center close to the Kapitelgasse. Make sure not to miss the viewpoint called “Richterhöhe” which offers great views on the mountain range south of Salzburg. You could also end your tour at the Stieglkeller (Festungsgasse 10) a local brewery, which has a terrace with a nice view on the city

Walk on the Kappuzinerberg (Salzburg city)

A nice walk offering spectacular views on the city center and walking along the old town walls on the hill. There is a nice place where you can also stop to have a drink at the Franziskischlössel before getting down again to the Linzergasse. From the Linzergasse, you can easily make it to the Mirabelgarten, which is only a few minutes away and where you will be able to make great photos of the city.

Places to refresh if the weather is hot
When the weather is hot and you're looking for a refreshment, Salzburg and surroundings offer many possibilities. We have chosen for you a few spots :
Salzachsee - Badesee Liefering (lakes) (to get there take bus n° 7 at the Bahnhofsplatz and get of at the terminus)
Naturbadestrand am Fuschlsee (lake) (to get there take the bus n° 150 or n° 150X [which is a direct bus and will take you there in only 35 minutes])

Up in the mountains: Untersberg
Duration of the excursion: half a day
Warning : you need good shoes (no sandals !) to walk around at the top of the mountain as well as warm clothing - even if its warm down in the valley, it can be much colder on the top of the mountain and sometimes also very windy !
If you want to have a taste of the mountains, you can get to the Untersberg (take the bus n° 25) and get up with the cable car. You will have a spectacular view, not only of the city of Salzburg (to the north) but also of the mountains of Berchtesgaden (to the south). WARNING: if you do not have any mountain experience do not, under any circumstances, walk up or down the moutain by yourself. Also note that the weather can be changing very fast and that is dangerous to remain on the mountain in case of a thunderstorm.
